Re: Christianity

I have read a small portion of your page, and you seem intelligent. I am currently a christian(sort-of), but am questioning christianity. Why should I believe in Christianity, and more specificaly, Catholicism, if you think it the best of the christian churches which you clearly do.

Thanks for the question. As I mention in several places on my website, I cannot prove that God exists, that Jesus is God and that he founded the Catholic Church. Ultimately faith is a matter of grace, a free gift which can be received in answer to prayer. However one can clear away seductive but false solutions (such as pantheism or "New Age") so the issue is sharply focused. When the question becomes clear, the response is hard to avoid. To face this question is not comfortable because it demands something from us. In fact to say "yes" to the three questions requires everything. Have you read "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis? It was written a half a century ago, but is still the best starting point.

God bless,

Fr. Phil Bloom

P.S. I would also like to recommend a book by Peter Kreeft which boldly addresses this issue.
