Bulletin (July 2, 2006)

The ground floor renovation continues to move forward. Below, you will see three pictures: 1) Architect Kevin Broderick and parish administator Gary Samaniego inspecting the removal of the old concrete floor (to make room for a new floor for the medium size parish hall); 2) plumbers digging out the ground below the old boys’ restroom (to install plumbing for the new boys’ and girls’ restrooms, as well as a small kitchen); 3) the construction crew removing debris. I thank you for your support of the Capital Campaign which makes this work possible. I also want to thank those who are doing the volunteer work on our playfield (south of the Ailbe House) and other improvements to the parish this summer.

I also want to thank you for your support of the Annual Catholic Appeal. The latest report indicates that Holy Family parishioners have made pledges totaling $52,760.75. This brings us close to our goal of $59,968. You may have noticed in the Parish Council Minutes that our 2006-2007 included $10,000 for “Annual Catholic Appeal shortfall.” With the latest pledges, we can reduce that amount. For those who have not yet pledged, it is never too late.

Also, on behalf of Fr. Ramon and the parish staff, I wish you all a happy and safe Fourth of July. Priests for Life has inaugurated a “double novena” beginning on July 4. There are eighteen weeks between July 4 and Election Day in November. Please consider saying the prayer found elsewhere in the bulletin. You can sign up to be part of this prayer campaign by going to: http://www.prayercampaign.org/

A Prayer for our National Elections
O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord, not only of individuals, but of nations and governments.
We thank you for the privilege of being able to organize ourselves politically and of knowing that political loyalty does not have to mean disloyalty to you.
We thank you for your law, which our Founding Fathers acknowledged and recognized as higher than any human law.
We thank you for the opportunity that this election year puts before us, to exercise our solemn duty not only to vote, but to influence countless others to vote, and to vote correctly.
Lord, we pray that your people may be awakened. Let them realize that while politics is not their salvation, their response to you requires that they be politically active.
Awaken your people to know that they are not called to be a sect fleeing the world but rather a community of faith renewing the world.
Awaken them that the same hands lifted up to you in prayer are the hands that pull the lever in the voting booth; That the same eyes that read your Word are the eyes that read the names on the ballot, and that they do not cease to be Christians when they enter the voting booth.
Awaken your people to a commitment to justice to the sanctity of marriage and the family, to the dignity of each individual human life, and to the truth that human rights begin when human lives begin, and not one moment later.
Lord, we rejoice today that we are citizens of your kingdom.
May that make us all the more committed to being faithful citizens on earth.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Amen!
