Bulletin (December 7, 2003)

The above picture shows Tien Le – a young man from our parish who, during the past few weeks, has cleared our newly acquired lot. Tien has devoted his time and his equipment to this task, at a considerable savings to Holy Family Parish. If you have Internet access, you can see some pictures of work at: /demolition.html

People have asked what we will do with the lot. One obvious need is for more parking space, but there are other possibilities depending on the results of our Feasibility Study. In January and February, I will be discussing this with our Parish Council. Please give your feedback to our Council members.

Thank you to those who gave names and addresses for the “Come Home for Christmas” letter. So far I have received about fifteen names of people in the “Anglo” community and five in the Hispanic community. I need names by December 14 so that I can send the letter that week.

I am looking forward to the Christmas celebrations. A lot of work is being done, especially on the music. Those of you who attend the 5 p.m. Saturday Mass know that Pat Waite is doing a marvelous job with the children’s choir. They will be singing at Children’s Mass, 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Paul Grady and others have been working on a volunteer basis to provide music for the Sunday morning Masses. Many people have remarked how much they appreciate the meditative quality of the music. We are striving to fulfill the Vatican II ideal of “noble simplicity.” Paul Grady is developing a special program for Christmas Midnight Mass and a Service of Readings and Hymns beginning at 11 p.m.

Next Sunday at our 11 a.m. Mass we will have the Rite of Acceptance for our RCIA candidates. It involves “signing the senses,” that is, tracing the sign of the cross on the ears, eyes, lips, shoulders, etc., while the celebrant says the corresponding prayers. For example, “Receive the sign of the cross on your ears, that you may hear the voice of the Lord.” The Rite will take place after the homily.

This Friday we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Special thanks to Rogelio Andrade for the beautiful tableau in our sanctuary. The Masses will be at 8:30 a.m. in English and 7 p.m. in Spanish. Once again, we have the good fortune of having with us Fr. Juan Francisco Gonzalez, from the diocese of Aguascalientes.

During this season of Advent and Christmas, all of us are ardently praying for peace in our world. I have been particularly praying for this intention since my niece’s husband was deployed to Iraq. I put Bob’s picture on the bulletin board to pray for our soldiers overseas. If you have relatives, friends or loved ones who are serving in areas of great danger, like Iraq, please place a picture of them on that board so we can prayer for them.
